GoUnit

Privacy policy

Last updated

This policy covers GoUnit only, the offline unit converter published by Silom Digital. It is separate from this website’s own policy, because what an app does with data has nothing to do with what a marketing site does.

The short version

GoUnit has no account and no sign-in, runs no analytics, and does not collect your name, email address, location, or anything you convert.

Two things do involve third parties. The free version shows ads, provided by Google AdMob and the advertising partners it works with. The optional Pro purchase is verified by RevenueCat. Each handles some data about your device on its own, and this policy says exactly what and why.

What stays on your device

Your settings — theme, decimal separator, rounding, pinned categories, favourite units, saved shortcuts, tracked cities, and whether you have bought Pro — are stored only on your device, using the operating system’s own app storage.

This data never leaves your phone. It is not backed up to us, because there is no “us” to back it up to. We therefore keep it for no length of time at all: deleting the app deletes every bit of it, immediately and permanently, with nothing left on any server of ours because there is no server of ours.

Data held by the advertising and purchase services described below is separate from this, and is covered in their own sections.

Currency rates

The Currency category needs exchange rates, so the app downloads a rates file from a public content delivery network (jsDelivr, with Cloudflare Pages as a fallback mirror).

That request contains no information about you: it asks for the same file every user asks for, and carries nothing about what you were converting. As with loading any web page, the network operators can see the IP address the request came from. We do not receive that information and cannot see it.

Every other category — length, weight, temperature, time zones and the rest — is computed entirely on your device and works with no network connection at all.

Advertising

The free version of GoUnit shows a banner ad, and offers an optional video ad that refreshes currency rates. Ads are provided by Google AdMob and the advertising partners Google works with; Google’s consent message lists them by name. When an ad is requested, Google and those partners can receive information from your device, which can include your IP address, device and operating-system details, the app name, and your device’s advertising identifier. They use it to choose, deliver and measure ads and to prevent fraud, and may use the advertising identifier to personalise ads if you allow it.

Before any ad is requested, the app asks for your permission. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, a consent message from Google asks whether ads may use your data. On iPhone, Apple’s tracking prompt asks whether GoUnit may use your advertising identifier. Declining keeps the app fully working; the ads you see are then not personalised, or, where the law requires consent first and it is not given, are not shown.

You can change this at any time. Where Google’s consent message applies, open GoUnit’s Settings › Ad privacy choices to see it again and change your answer. You can also use your device settings: on iPhone, Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking; on Android, your device’s ad settings, usually Settings › Privacy › Ads, where you can also reset or delete your advertising ID.

We do not receive the data Google or its partners collect, and cannot identify you from it. We see only aggregate figures such as impressions and earnings. How Google handles the data is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and policies.google.com/privacy; each partner’s own policy is linked from the consent message. Google and its partners may process the data in the United States and other countries under their own safeguards.

Buying Pro removes the ads entirely: with Pro, the app never requests an ad.

Purchases

Pro is a one-time purchase. Payment is handled entirely by Apple (the App Store) or Google (Google Play) — we never see your card or payment details.

To confirm that you own Pro, unlock it, and let you restore it on a new phone, the app uses RevenueCat, a purchase-verification service. RevenueCat receives a random anonymous ID generated for your installation (it is not linked to your name or email address), your purchase receipt and transaction details from the store, your IP address, and basic device information such as the app version, operating system and store country. We use it only to verify and restore your purchase, and we do not combine it with anything else. RevenueCat’s policy is at www.revenuecat.com/privacy, and it may process data in the United States under its own safeguards.

What we never do

We do not sell your personal information. We run no analytics or tracking tools of our own, we build no profile of you, and we do not link advertising or purchase data to anything else.

The advertising services described above may use your advertising identifier to personalise ads if you allow it. Some laws, for example in several US states, describe that as “sharing” for targeted advertising. You can turn it off at any time using the settings above.

Children

GoUnit is a general-audience utility. It is not directed at children under 13 — or under 16 where local law sets that age — and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

If you believe a child has used GoUnit and you want data about them removed from the advertising or purchase services, contact us at the address below and we will help you reach the right place.

Your rights

Laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you the right to access, correct, or delete the personal data a company holds about you, and to object to its use. We hold no personal data of our own about you, so there is nothing for us to look up or delete, and no request to us could identify you.

The data described under Advertising and Purchases is held by Google, its advertising partners and RevenueCat, and you can exercise those rights with them directly using the links above, or through your device settings. If you contact us, we will point you to the right place.

In the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom we rely on your consent for ad personalisation and for the advertising identifier, and on performing our contract with you — delivering what you bought — for verifying a purchase.

The data controller is Ali Završnik, trading as Silom Digital, reachable at admin@silomdigital.com. If you believe we have handled your data improperly you have the right to complain to your national data protection authority; in the EU that is the supervisory authority for the country you live in.

Changes

If a future version of GoUnit changes what is collected or who processes it, this policy will be updated before that version ships, and the change will be described here, and in the app’s store privacy labels, rather than buried.
