How do I turn a photo of a page into editable text?
Open Scan Export, choose Scan text and photograph the page, or pick a photo, PDF or Word file. The text opens in an editor where you can fix it, translate it, copy it, or save it as Word, PDF or a text file.
Can Scan Export read handwriting?
Yes. With your permission, pages are read by AI (Google's Gemini), which reads print and handwriting far better than a phone can, and keeps bold, colour, highlights and headings. AI can make mistakes, so check the result.
How do I scan a document to PDF?
Choose Scanned PDF. Your pages are kept exactly as photographed, signatures and stamps included, in one PDF with the text searchable underneath.
Does Scan Export work offline?
Yes. When you are offline, or your AI pages run out, your phone reads the pages itself. Each translation language works offline once it has downloaded.
Is Scan Export free?
Yes. Every plan includes unlimited scans read on your phone, Scanned PDFs, offline translation and Word, PDF and text export. Free includes 15 AI pages a month and shows ads. Plus (200 AI pages a month) and Pro (1,000) are monthly subscriptions with no ads.
What happens to the pages I scan?
Your scans and files stay on your phone. A page read with AI goes through our server to Google's AI and the text comes back; we do not keep a copy of the image. You can switch AI off in Settings.
